Teenager Faces Charges After Soliciting Underage Girl Online

A 19-year-old Warsaw man was arrested after sending a girl under 14 inappropriate text messages and a photo. Damen Kane Lowery, 19, of 1160 N. Arbutus Trail, Warsaw, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly soliciting a child under the age of 14 years of age to engage in sexual intercourse or sexual contact, a Level 5 felony, and inappropriate communications with a child, a Class A misdemeanor. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the Kosciusko County Prosector’s Office, on May 31 a woman reported Lowery sent inappropriate text messages to her daughter’s cellular phone. The woman told police she had set up her daughter’s cell phone to monitor all incoming e-mails and text messages. She was reviewing the juvenile’s messages when she located a photograph of Lowery’s genitalia. After the photo was sent, the text conversation turned to a sexual nature. The woman explained her daughter had met Lowery at a gathering May 29 and only knew the adult male by his first name, Damen. Kosciusko County Sherriff’s Department Detective Shane Bucher met with Lowery who admitted it was his cell phone number texting the juvenile. He took a picture of his penis and sent it to her. Lowery advised he did not know the real age of the juvenile, but that she told him she was junior in high school. Lowery refused to provide the phone to Bucher. Bucher obtained the text messages from the juvenile’s cell phone and found messages from Lowery’s phone number with a photograph of Lowery’s genitalia and another message from Lowery indicating it was his genitalia. It was also indicated in the messages between the juvenile and Lowery that the juvenile advised of the age difference. Lowery’s texts stated he was alright with the age difference and shared what he would like to do in a sexual manner. Lowery was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday for child solicitation.
