SYRACUSE – CSX train traffic had to be halted early Sunday morning after a Fort Wayne teen drove onto the tracks near Syracuse. Leandro Lopez, 19, Fort Wayne, was booked into Kosciusko County Jail at 5:26 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated and possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy James Smith was dispatched to the call around 3:15 a.m. Sunday. Smith noted in his report that the car was on the railroad tracks about 50 feet from the crossing at CR 1000E, just south of CR 1250N. Lopez allegedly told Smith he thought the railroad tracks were the road. Smith noted that an eastbound train had stopped about 200 feet from Lopez’s Chevy Impala. Lopez failed several field sobriety tests given by Smith, and was given a portable breathalyzer, which registered a .19 blood alcohol content, more than twice the legal limit. While at Kosciusko County Jail, Lopez was registered with a .15 BAC. Lopez was held on a $550 bond.
