A Pierceton teenager is in critical condition at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, after being hit by a van Wednesday evening in Warsaw.
Marcos Mendoza, 16, of South CR 325E, was southbound on North Detroit Street (Ind. 15) on a motorized skateboard about 4 p.m. when he apparently turned in front of a van driven by Manuel Centeno, 31, North Columbia Street, Warsaw.
Mendoza suffered internal injuries and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, before being airlifted to Parkview.
According to a Warsaw Police Department report, Centeno was unable to avoid the collision when Mendoza swerved in front of him near the intersection of Detroit and Arthur streets.
Two witnesses corroborated Centeno's account of the accident.
A doctor who stopped at the accident scene performed rescue breathing on Mendoza until emergency crews arrived, police said.
