SYRACUSE - A Cromwell teen was injured Monday when he was ejected from a boat while on Lake Wawasee.
Barry D. Bruner Jr., 13, suffered a cut to his knee in the 2:45 p.m. accident near Johnson's Bay.
According to reports from the Department of Natural Resources, Bruner was operating a 15-foot Whaler with a 40-horsepower motor and, after leaving the marina, placed the boat's throttle in the wide open position and proceeded to make a turn. Bruner was ejected from the boat and struck by the motor's propeller as the boat turned in a circular course.
After Bruner fell from the boat, the watercraft continued to turn in circles until a Syracuse Fire Department firefighter jumped into the runaway boat and got it stopped. Indiana conservation officers and Syracuse firefighters used boats to get close enough to the unoccupied boat.
Bruner was treated for his injuries at Kosciusko Community Hospital and later released.
