Three-and-a-half months after crashing his car into an apartment building, Cory J. Byall, 19, of Fort Wayne, is behind bars.

Byall was arrested Wednesday after the Kosciusko Superior Court II issued two warrants for criminal recklessness, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in body, a Class C misdemeanor.

On Aug. 16 at 11:33 p.m., Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies responded to a call in the 2200 block of South CR 275 East in reference to a car that had been struck and an apartment complex on fire.

Byall told deputies that he was driving 70 to 80 mph in a 35 mph zone when he hit a dip in the road and lost control of his vehicle. Byall struck a vehicle and crashed into an apartment complex. After the collision, Byall took his passenger, Wayne C. Weihold, 19, out of the vehicle before the car and the apartment complex caught fire.

Once deputies sifted through the information given, they asked Byall if he would consent to have blood drawn to see if there was alcohol or drugs in his system at the time of the collision. On Aug. 31, the results of the blood test came back positive for marijuana in Byall’s system at the time of the collision.

Byall was booked into Kosciusko County Jail on $750 bond and as of this morning is still in KCJ.
