'Take Action' Looking To Reach Out To Community

'Take Action' Looking To Reach Out To CommunityWith an eye on community involvement and philanthropy, the owners of Take Action Tattoo currently have several irons in the fire.

On Oct. 2, they will host a grand opening car show charity event.

Owners Squiggy Bender and John Brown took over operations of the business this summer.

Located at the former Black Sheep Studio, 938 N. Detroit St. in the Center Lake Plaza in Warsaw, Bender and Brown, who have more than 20 years combined experience, are intent on continuing the idea of being fully a part of the community.

While the Oct. 2 event is designed as a grand opening, it is also to help benefit a client of the studio.

Eddie Mullins is battling prostate cancer and the event at Take Action will raise funds for him and his family.

When Mullins came in to Take Action Tattoo and told of his diagnosis, Bender and Brown decided to come up with an event for him.

Brown said since many clients come in on multiple occasions to get pieces completed, there is a bond that develops between the artist and client.

The cost for pre-registration for the car show is $15 and $20.

There will be awards for Best in Show, Best Truck, Best Car, Fan Favorite and more.

There also will be prizes given away by Rex's Rendezvous, Downtown Eatery and Spirits, Mad Anthony's AT&T Wireless, Pickerman's El Arriero, Merle Norman, NAPA Auto Parts, Shrader's Auto and Union Tool.

Also that day, teams from the War City Derby Militia will be on hand. The War City Derby Militia is a new all-female roller derby league.

Take Action's Bree manages daily operations and is also a coach in the league.

Take Action Tattoo is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.

Along with the charity event, Take Action is also developing a not-for-profit that focuses on children's art education. Brown said the classes will focus on things like water color.

"It's not about quality but the intent of the message behind it," said Brown.

Take Action also hopes to create a venue for original music.

The group is working on bringing musicians in to perform original material only for all-ages shows.

Brown said they will support any music regardless of genre.

There are also art shows and exhibits on the horizon at Take Action and there are currently pieces on display.

Local artists can display their work at Take Action.
