SYRACUSE – A Syracuse teen was arrested Tuesday after allegedly attempting to rob a convenience store with an airsoft rifle. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies were contacted Tuesday at approximately 3:26 p.m. by an 18-year-old male who told them he had attempted to rob the Noble convenience store, 10010 N. Turkey Creek Road, Syracuse, for cigarettes. Officers located and identified the suspect, Nick Jay Hise, Syracuse, according to a release from KCSD. Hise reportedly went to the convenience store wearing a bandana style mask and carrying an assault style airsoft rifle. Hise then apparently pointed the weapon at the store manager and the cashier, demanding cigarettes. Noble store employees believed the weapon to be a toy and refused to comply with Hise’s demands. He then left the business. Law enforcement officials were unaware of the incident until being contacted by Hise. Hise then confessed over the telephone about the incident. Hise was arrested and preliminarily charged with felony attempted robbery. He is currently being held on a $5,000 bond in the Kosciusko County Jail. KCSD was also assisted by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana State Police.
