SYRACUSE - Prince Alexander, Indianapolis, was chosen by the Syracuse Park Board to submit a formal contract for consideration regarding the community center. Discussion Wednesday with Prince Alexander Vice President Terry Burnworth led the board to choose Prince Alexander.
The contract will be approved at the Park Board meeting Oct. 19 and again at the town council meeting Oct. 20.
Initially, 13 architectural firms were on the list. About nine firms responded with proposals. Three were invited to a previous meeting, and Prince Alexander was chosen Wednesday.
Many reasons were cited by the park board as to why Prince Alexander was chosen.
Prince Alexander recently worked on three to four other community centers for small towns in Indiana. The towns cited by Burnworth included Avon, Crawfordsville and Franklin.
"They had a lot to give us. They try to work with the communities," Chairman Bill White said.
White said Prince Alexander is a smaller firm that works just on a few projects at a time. He said they also help with fund-raising.
The preliminary contract presented at the meeting was a straight American Institute of Architects agreement.
Town Manager Matt Vigneault said, "I'd like to see something included in here to illustrate the fact of certain things finished in time to apply for the Build Indiana Fund."
Burnworth said it would not be a problem to coordinate that request.
The board also discussed with Burnworth about having a general public meeting with interested groups about community center use. White said if a senior center or local youth group wanted to use the facilities, then the meeting would help find interested parties. Burnworth agreed and said he would attend the public meetings.
