CROMWELL – The body of Anastacio Lopez, 47, of 11671 N. East Wawasee Drive, Syracuse, was found in a cornfield near Cromwell in Noble County after apparently being struck by a vehicle sometime late Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, according to the Noble County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Jason Koontz responded to a welfare check Tuesday at 11:44 p.m. Lopez was reported missing by family members and was last known to be near CR 1200 West, south of Ind. 6. The sheriff’s department began searching the immediate area for Lopez when Koontz located a shoe in the road. Further investigation led to the discovery of a male, who was positively identified as Lopez, lying in a cornfield. Lopez was declared dead at the scene due to his injuries from being hit by a vehicle that allegedly left the scene.
