Syracuse Council To Vote On Ind. 13 Expansion

Posted

A special meeting is scheduled for next week when Syracuse Town Council will vote on the proposed Ind. 13 expansion project.

The project would increase the number of lanes through the "village" from two and three to five. The plan has attracted large numbers of opponents, including the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce and many of the businesses located in the village.

Most opposition comes from the decreased number of access points to businesses and doubts that a five-lane highway is needed in the lake resort town.

The project, proposed by the Indiana Department of Transportation, would cost roughly $3 million, with a large share of the funds provided by state and federal grants.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. June 3 at council chambers.
