SYRACUSE – The Syracuse Town Council held a short meeting Tuesday evening. It approved Town Manager Henry DeJulia to purchase a new 2016 Jeep Patriot for himself and police use. He told the board that with inclement weather being so common, a four-wheel drive vehicle will benefit the police. Town marshal Jim Layne agreed that his department could get use out of the vehicle. The price is just over $19,000, and DeJulia has set aside funds for it. The Syracuse ice rink is open for public use. Parks Superintendent Chad Jonsson advised that the rink has been used every day for over a week. The adult basketball league is underway, with nine teams participating. In other news, Layne told the board that for December, Syracuse police received 443 total calls for service. There were 24 written reports, eight property damage accidents and no accidents causing injury. There were only six criminal arrests made. The next town council meeting will be Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
