WINONA LAKE - Randolph Swanson was appointed during a caucus Tuesday night to replace District 5 Councilman Jeff Carroll on the Winona Lake Town Council.
Swanson was appointed by precinct committee members Dave Wolkins, Wayne Snider and Janice Workman.Carroll announced during the council's Oct. 14 meeting that he was resigning from the town council because he was moving to Warsaw.
"I'm honored to be appointed and looking forward to giving back to the community in a constructive way," Swanson said.
He said he is a lifelong resident of the Warsaw-Winona Lake area and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1964 and Manchester College in 1968.
"The older I get, the more I appreciate what a great place the Warsaw area is to raise a family. My memories of Winona Lake are overwhelmingly favorable," Swanson said.
He said he is excited to serve on the council and continue the progress the council has made.
He said he has been a property and business owner in the Warsaw-Winona lake area for the past 40 years.
"I know what it's like to meet payroll in good times and bad and make difficult business decisions regarding finances," Swanson said.
This is his first time for holding a political office.
"Maybe it is a good thing to come into a position to bring in a fresh, non-political point of view that is unbiased and independent," Swanson said.
Other candidates were Risa Crouse and Michael Harstine.
