An award-winning country gospel artist is returning to Warsaw for a free Christmas concert. “A Country Christmas with Susie McEntire Benefitting Toys for Tots” will be Dec. 19 in the Lakeview Middle School auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Seating for the approximately 75-minute concert is first come, first served. The Warsaw Christian School choir will have a “special” performance with McEntire, according to organizer Mike Loher. “The concert is free, but we are asking for a donation or a new, unwrapped present to benefit the local Toys for Tots,” Loher said. Susie McEntire is the sister of legendary country artist Reba McEntire. “Susie also shares her big sister’s musical giftings. But Susie has directed her talents to the country gospel side of American Roots music garnering much acclaim from her peers and fans alike. In addition to numerous awards and nominations from TNN, GMA and CCMA, Susie has been named ‘Artist of the Year’ several times in the field of Positive Country Music. She has also scored four No. 1 singles on the Positive Country radio charts,” according to her biography on her official website susiemcentire.com “I worked with her in the past and this became available, and I thought we could turn it into a neat deal for the community. It was too good of a deal to pass up. It went from there,” Loher said. McEntire previously performed at the “Salute to the Heroes” event at the Kosciusko County Fair in 2013. Pastor Rob Seewald, from Leesburg United Methodist Church, one of the event’s sponsors, will say a few words at the event. Other large contributors include Louis Dreyfus, Times-Union, J.W. Stookey Construction, Everest Excavating, Willie 103.5, Warsaw Rotary Club and The Papers. “The support that we got so far has been phenomenal with the sponsors and everything. The Chamber of Commerce is involved. The CVB is helping,” Loher said. Hopefully, he added, at the end of the day the concert will make some kids’ Christmas a little bit better. “When this idea was born, with the stype of music she does, this has the potential to be the feel-good event of the year,” Loher said. “I just want people to come, feel good, have a good time – and it’s free!” For more information, contact Loher at 574-376-0193.
