According to the recently released Economic Impact of Airports in Indiana, Warsaw Municipal Airport generated $29,334,979 in total economic activity in 1999.
Warsaw ranked 11th out of 106 public use airports for economic impact, said airport manager David Beall.
Beall submitted information by the Aviation Association of Indiana that said the economic impact study is a method of calculating a dollar value for Indiana's airports. The study addresses individually the value of the economic benefits generated at airports throughout Indiana and totals in dollars their combined economic benefit for the state.
The report found Indiana's airports generate more than $4.2 billion in economic activity and employ 17,300, with payrolls totaling more than $415 million, said AAI information. Locally, the airport and its corporate tenants employ more than 50 people, with payrolls totaling more than $2 million.
"Those who use the airport frequently are aware that it is a key part of our community," said Beall. "This report allows us to quantify the direct impacts of the airport in such a way that it also allows us to demonstrate its importance to non-aviation users as well."
According to the biennial report prepared by the AAI, the airport generated $14,960,157 in direct and indirect impacts. Direct impacts result from expenditures by the airport, with indirect impacts being expenditures related to airport activity made in the local economy by the people using the airport.
"This report clearly illustrated that the airport is a vital part of our local community," Beall said.
Economic impact is a valuable tool for airports because in today's society airports and other entities are continually being asked to justify their existence.
AAI uses this report as an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of aviation in the state's economy.
The Economic Impact of Airports is conducted by the Aviation Awareness Committee of AAI.
