State Rep. District 22 Debate Cancelled Due To Nisly Campaign Concerns

Posted
Though the Times-Union had hoped to co-sponsor a debate Tuesday at the Wagon Wheel Theatre between Republican State Representative District 22 candidates Curt Nisly and incumbent Rebecca Kubacki, it has been cancelled.
While Kubacki jumped on board for the debate, Nisly’s campaign had reservations about the debate and turned the idea down.
In an email to Times-Union Managing Editor Gary Gerard, Pam Galloway, media contact and committee chairperson for Nisly’s campaign, stated, “I first found out about the debate last Friday when an acquaintance mentioned it and sent me the screen shot of the announcement on Facebook. I was alarmed because of the extreme irregularities (i.e. all of the details being worked out ahead of time such as the moderator, location, no discussion of questions and other details) prior to contacting the candidates. Also it seems very odd that the Wagon Wheel would be selected because Rep. Kubacki is on the board of directors. I am wary of bias issues given that at the Chamber event Curt was asked if he would endorse Rebecca if he loses, but she was not asked the same question.”
Galloway also wrote that, “Both Curt and Rep. Kubacki have been at at least two public forums during the campaign. At this point we would have to cancel something to accommodate your request which would anger people. Curt and I have been going door to door since March 3 to get our message out to the people of the 22nd district. We will be happy to take questions from the public and answer them by publishing in your paper.”
