The State Board of Education released the grades for school corporations for 2013 this morning. In December, the board released grades for individual schools. All but one of the local six school districts either maintained their grade from last year or improved it. Manchester Community Schools saw its overall grade drop. It was an “A” in 2012, but dropped to a “B” in 2013. Its score decreased from 3.73 in 2012 to a 3.38 in 2013. Warsaw Community Schools received a score of 3.74 out of 4, still an “A,” for 2013. It received an “A” in 2012 with a perfect score of 4. Wawasee earned a “C” in 2012 and earned another “C” for 2013. Its score decreased from a 2.57 in 2012 to 2.32 in 2013. Tippecanoe Valley also maintained its “C” this year, having earned that letter grade in 2012. Its score decreased from 2.9 in 2012 to 2.25 in 2013. Whitko Community School Corp.’s grade increased from a “D” in 2012 to a “B” in 2013. Its score rose from 1.96 in 2012 to 3.31 in 2013. Triton School Corp.’s grade improved from a “C” in 2012 to an “A” in 2013. Its score increased from 2.74 in 2012 to 4 in 2013. Former Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett started the A-F grading system in 2011. The grading system was meant to help parents understand school performance and how their schools were doing. For the 2014-15 school year, the state board is setting new standards.
