Stabbing Leaves Teen Hospitalized

SYRACUSE - A Fort Wayne teen-ager remains in the intensive care unit at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw today after being stabbed at a Syracuse area party this weekend.

Paul C. Dabe, 17, a student at Snyder High School, was stabbed once in the chest with a hunting knife. The wound punctured Dabe's lung near his heart.

Police arrested Jason L. Vachon, 16, of Fort Wayne, in connection with the Saturday stabbing. Vachon is being held at Southwood Detention Center for juveniles pending a waiver hearing to adult status.

According to police, Vachon will be charged with aggravated battery and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Det. Sgt. Tom Brindle said Dabe and Vachon were attending a party at the summer home of Aimee Gladieux's parents on North Sunrise Drive in Syracuse. Gladieux's parents, also of Fort Wayne, thought she was spending the night with friends.

Officials said witnesses at the party reported no fighting took place inside the house. Instead, the stabbing took place as the victim was leaving the party.

Also in connection with the party, several teens were preliminarily charged and booked in Kosciusko County Jail for illegal possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor. They are:

• Gladieux, 18, Fort Wayne.

• Naomi Anne Hudock, 18, Fort Wayne.

• Gregg Alan Meyers, 19, Fort Wayne.

• Stephen Charles Walker III, 20, New Haven.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Syracuse Police Department. The incident remains under investigation.
