St. Jude Bike Ride Set For June 5NORTH WEBSTER - For those looking to get out on their bicycles next weekend, they can also ride for a good cause.
To help raise money for the St. Jude Research Hospital, there will be a bike ride kicking off at the North Webster Community Center June 5.
Same-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
The registration fee is $15 for individuals and $25 for families.
The first 30 to register get a free t-shirt.
There are three different routes for the ride.
For those looking for a more leisurely ride around the county, a 10- and 25-mile ride is available.
There is also a 52-mile hilly challenge.
There will be stops on the routes at Merry Lea and the Harper Lake campground.
Carole Gilbert, who sits on the committee that organizes the ride, said that with this being the second year of the ride the hope is to keep it growing.
In 2009, there were 54 participants in the ride.
"We've all got kids, we've got grandkids," said Gilbert on why the committee is organizing the ride. "They're doing fantastic research especially with cancer."
There also will be a volunteer with Charter College on hand for the ride to give free massages to riders.
Gilbert said that 100 percent of money raised from the event will go to St. Jude.
The ride will extend into parts of Noble and Whitley counties on top of the course going through Kosciusko County.
