PIERCETON – St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Pierceton will have a free community dinner in July. The dinner will be July 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, 408 W. Catholic St., Pierceton. Event co-chairs are Lila O’Connell and Brenda and Pat Landrigan, both of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The committee also includes Fred and Sue de la Cruz, Jake Landrigan, Jean Munch and Libby Anderson, all of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Committee members also are Joyce Kreger and Helen Hall, First Presbyterian Church; Pastor Holly and Georgia Tenney, United Methodist Church; and Pastor Glenn and Teresa Hall, Harvest Community Church. Friar Andrew Curry, who transferred from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church to North Manchester, had the idea for the dinner. “Our main thought was to benefit the financially poor, but I’ve elaborated on that to include those that like the need for the community and social aspect of it happening here in Pierceton,” O’Connell said. St. Francis Xavier is partnering with three other churches in Pierceton including First Presbyterian Church, United Methodist Church and Harvest Community Church for the dinner. “Since it’s July we thought we would have a cookout menu,” O’Connell said. The menu will include hotdogs, hamburgers, baked beans, salad, desserts and drinks. O’Connell said the dinner will be on a trial basis, and plans are to meet and decide the future of the dinners.
