Sprint customers throughout Indiana have been the target of telemarketing fraud.
Telemarketers have been calling Sprint customers claiming to be a representative of Sprint. These individuals are seeking information about local and long distance services and are offering to combine local and long distance charges onto one bill. The telemarketer also promises a savings if the customer chooses to change his service. Once the Sprint customer begins to ask questions, the telemarketer often hangs up or responds in a rude manner.
If a customer receives a call from someone asking questions about his telephone bill he should:
Ask the solicitor his name and who he represents. If possible get a phone number.
Request written information about the services being offered, then read the fine print closely.
Keep personal information to yourself.
Check your phone bill for any changes to your account.
Customers with questions about a telemarketing organization or who would like to report telemarketing fraud can contact the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Hotline at 800-382-5516.
