Spring Arbor’s Marandet Named To Bevo Francis Award Watch List SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Warsaw Community High School alum and Spring Arbor University senior Paul Marandet has been named to the Top 100 Watch List for the 2019-20 Bevo Francis Award presented to the top player in Small College Basketball, awarded by SmallCollege-Basketball.com. The honor is awarded to a deserving player whose university is affiliated within NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and NCCAA.

 Marandet has led the defending national champions to a 12-7 overall record so far this season. The Warsaw, Indiana native has started all 19 games and is averaging a team-high 19.7 points per contest, which ranks fifth in the Crossroads League. The senior point guard also ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage (55.6%) and assists (6.2 per game).

Marandet, a First Team All-American in 2018-19, has surpassed 1,900 career points, putting him eighth on SAU’s all-time scoring list. Marandet is also closing in on the program’s career assist record, needing just 76 to pass the mark.

The Clarence “Bevo” Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball. Considerations will be season statistics and individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements. This season marks the fifth year of the Bevo Francis Award. Past winners include Dominez Burnett of Davenport University in 2016, Justin Pitts of Northwest Missouri State University in 2017, Emanuel Terry of Lincoln Memorial University in 2018, and Aston Francis of Wheaton College in 2019.

 On Feb. 15, the list will be reduced to the Top 50 players. One month later on Mar. 15, the Top 25 players will be announced. On Apr. 4, the finalists of this year’s award will be announced, followed by the winner being crowned Apr. 6.

Other nominees playing for Crossroads League schools include Warsaw alum and Indiana Wesleyan junior guard Kyle Mangas, and Bethel University juniors Trevion Crews and Grant Gelon.
