Southern Gospel Coming To Winona

Posted
WINONA LAKE – Two Southern gospel groups will perform at the Grace College and Village at Winona Concert Series this year.

The series, hosted by Northern Lakes Gospel Promotions Concerts, will feature The Booth Brothers and The Guardians, who will perform at 6 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Winona Heritage Room, 901 Park Ave., Winona Lake.

The Booth Brothers are a trio made up of Ronnie and Michael Booth and Paul Lancaster.

The trio performed during the series last year. They received several awards, including album of the year, song of the year, trio of the year, favorite artist of the year and other awards, according to a provided news release.

“It’s (The Booth Brothers) a group that’s a ministry,” said Wende Roberts, director/promotor for Northern Lakes Gospel Promotions Concerts. The group not only entertains, but they also ministers. “They worship Christ.”

The Guardians are a quartet. Members are Neil Uhrig, John Darin Rowsey, Dean Hickman and Pat Barker.  The group has hits that include “Packin’ Up,” “Shoutin’ Sounds,” “Somebody Prays” and “Present in the Presence of the King.” “Present in The Presence of the King” was a number one single in March 2018.

“Their collective mission is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, sing songs that minister to people’s hearts, and touch lives. Their music is sincere and makes an impact,” according to the release.

Roberts stated both groups have harmonies that are second to none.

She said the groups really do care about people and what they’re singing about.

One of the draws for the groups was the area’s rich biblical history, Roberts said, including preachers like Billy Sunday and Billy Graham.

Graham was employed at one time at Youth for Christ, which was founded in Winona Lake. He also attended a prayer meeting in the former Westminster Hotel, which is now Westminster Hall at Grace College and Seminary.

Sunday was a famous  evangelist. While spending their summers for a few years prior to 1911 in Winona Lake, Sunday moved his family permanently in 1911 to Winona Lake, where he had his headquarters. Sunday died Nov. 6, 1935, with his last sermon at First Methodist Church in Mishawaka.

Attendees will be entertained, Roberts said.

“It’s going to be a wonderful night,” she said, also stating those attending should be prepared to laugh.

Last year’s event brought over 850 people, she said. Minus the fireworks display, it was highest-attended event in Winona Lake history. Roberts said she hopes they won’t have any tickets left this year.

Tickets are available at iTickets.com or by calling 800-965-9324. Artist circle tickets are $25, and general admission tickets are $15.
