SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's meeting, the South Whitley Town Council discussed future Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) funding to be used for "mill and fill" street repairs.
The council voted to work with DLZ to pursue CCMG funds, prioritizing streets in the worst condition and also a water main upgrade for Wayne Street, which is running on a 2-inch main that does not meet fire protection code.
Council revisited two ordinances from the August meeting on second reading, one on commercial property and another on allowing Clerk-Treasurer Alyssa Knepple to pay claims in lieu of a board meeting, quorum or in case of emergency.
In her report, Knepple said she has a meeting scheduled with the town's Baker Tilly representative who will attend the Sept. 23 meeting to discuss the latest utility rate study.
Approved claims were $156,254.89.
South Whitley Fall Festival will be held Sept. 26–28.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 23.
