South Whitley Preschool Hires Lead Teacher

Posted
SOUTH WHITLEY – Shawna Mullett has been hired as the lead teacher at South Whitley Community Preschool for the 2015-2016 school year.
She is a graduate of Ball State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a kindergarten endorsement. Shawna and her husband, Brady, principal at Eagle Tech Academy, live in Columbia City with their four children, Emily, Daniel, Allison and Isabel.
Mullett taught fifth grade and reading recover skills for Whitley County Consolidated Schools before the birth of her first daughter. A stay-at-home mom for nine years, she’s kept active in her profession by volunteering in her children’s classrooms, worked for Central Noble’s summer school sessions and for the YMCA’s after-school programs.
“Im excited to teach again,” Mullett said Monday while preparing the Schultz Center for this year’s preschool season, “not that I’ve ever really stopped.
“This is the best of both worlds because I’ll be able to bring my preschool-aged daughter with me,” Mullett also said.
The preschool offers nature walks, walks to the local parks and library, field trips and a visit with One Community’s Lunch and Camaraderie group at least once a semester. There are lots of puzzles, games, coloring activities and singing at South Whitley Community Preschool.
This year’s open house and orientation is Aug. 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Schultz Center on West Mulberry Street.
Children must turn 3 or be older before Aug. 1 to enroll. Parents living within or outside the Whitko school district are welcome to enroll their child. Classes are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. A limited number of need-based partial scholarships may be available.
Parents should bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization records and a non refundable $35 registration fee to the open house event.
