'Sounds of Summer' Theme for Silver Lake Days

Posted
This year’s Silver Lake Days theme is “Sounds of Summer,” a little different  from last year’s “Backyard Fun in the Sun.”

Each year the Silver Lake Days Committee meets to organize the festival. Like many years Gene Weller was in charge of choosing the theme for the festival.

“It is an ongoing thing year-to-year,” Weller said. “I come up with a different thing each year, it is always new.”

Weller has no idea where she comes up with the ideas, but they seem to go over well with the committee members.

“I pull it out of the top of my head,” Weller said. “They really liked the idea, they thought it was fine.”

Weller said that the theme of the festival is really only important for the parade on Saturday morning. This year’s parade will start at 11 a.m. sharp.

“We have a quite large parade.” Weller said. “We are expecting in excess of 150 units in the parade. It is a big deal.”

The parade route will run down Ind. 14 through Silver Lake.

“Anyone and everyone is invited to the parade,” Weller said. “Anyone who wants to be in the parade is also invited to do so.  Anyone can be a part of it.”

There is only one rule for the parade. The float for the “Cutie King and Queen” must be a moving unit.

In addition to the parade the festival will offer many different activities. Following the theme there will be live music performances Friday and Saturday.

“Friday night Reunion Station will perform downtown,” Weller said. “Saturday night Taken will be the guest performance.”

“Things always go smoothly, because everyone has a job and they do it well,” Weller said. “Each year everyone knows what they are to do and they just do it.”
