'Sleeping At Last' To Play Show In Winona Lake

WINONA LAKE - They've opened for Billy Corgan's old band, Zwan, Appleseed Cast, Yellowcard and Switchfoot. One of their songs was featured on the ABC series "Grey's Anatomy."

Now on tour in the U.S., Sleeping At Last will stop to play a show in Winona Lake Thursday.

Sleeping At Last formed in 1999 in their hometown of Wheaton, Ill. The band gained a national following after signing with Interscope Records in 2002.

The band will play the Thursday show at New Horizon, 1300 Wooster Road. Show organizers Corey Drake and Kyle Steury said Sleeping At Last is the biggest band that's ever played at New Horizon.

"I shot a random e-mail to their booking manager a month or so back to see if they would like to come play," said Steury. "We do shows at New Horizon about once a month and I was interested in seeing if a big national act would be interested in playing there."

Lead singer, guitarist and pianist Ryan O'Neal said Winona Lake will be the band's first stop on a short U.S. tour which will include about 14 other shows, mostly on the east coast. The band will play in venues in New York City, Jacksonville, Fla., and Minneapolis. O'Neal said playing at a small venue like New Horizon will be a good way to start the tour. "With some of the smaller venues, it's a fun, intimate atmosphere that we always like," he said.

Sleeping At Last's latest album, "Keep No Score," was released independently in 2006.

"The album is very thoughtful," said Steury. "That is the first word I think of when I hear it. They have a huge sound for a three-piece, and the landscapes they create can straight-up give you chills. Haunting melodies and thought-provoking lyrics; an amazing live show."

Drake's and Steury's band, "Darkroom" will open the show which starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets are on sale for the show. The tickets are $5 presale and $7 at the door. They are available at Tree of Life bookstores and 1000 Park Bakafe, Winona Lake, and online at http://www.myspace.com/darkroommusic
