Slates Taking Shape For City Candidates In May 6 Primary

There are three candidates each for both the District 5 Warsaw city council race and for the at-large seats to be decided in the 2003 municipal primary election May 6.

Potential candidates have 11 more days, until noon Feb. 21, to file or withdraw from the municipal primary election. To date the candidates are:

District 1: Jeff R. Grose*, 1801 E. Clark St.

District 2: Charles "Charlie" D. Smith*, 1902 North Bay Drive.

District 3: George M. Clemens*, 1211 Country Club Lane.

District 4: Gerald W. Patterson*, 616 N. Lake St.

District 5: Steven R. Brown, 1089 N. Detroit St.; William S. Rhoades*, 2144 Bluewater Drive; and Carl Lee Sowers, 812 E. Fort Wayne St.

At-large: Letrecia M. Brown*, 316 S. High St.; Dewey L. Lawshe, 1210 E. Center St.; and Joseph M. Thallemer*, 816 Lydia Drive.

Ernest B. Wiggins, 1555 Meadow Lane, is being challenged by Craig J. Allebach, 1605 Fisher Ave., for the position of mayor.

Madeline E. Call, 203 Sandpoint Drive, is running unopposed for the Warsaw clerk-treasurer's office, as is current clerk-treasurer of Winona Lake, Retha Hicks, 105 Third St.

All current terms for the Winona Lake town council posts end Dec. 31. Only one District, No. 3, has been offered a challenge so far.

District 1: Craig T. Snow*, 202 Fifth St.

District 2: Jerry L. Clevenger*, 1706 St. Andrews Road.

District 3: Roland "Rolly" Ortega*, 705 Terrace Drive; and James F. LeMasters, 202 Esplanade.

District 4: David R. Delp*, 12 Stone Camp Trail.

District 5: Jeffrey A. Carroll*, 2505 Orchard Drive.

In Syracuse, Julie A. Kline, 610 E. Wawonaissa Drive, has filed for the clerk-treasurer's office.

Filings for the Syracuse town council are posted from incumbents Carol F. Koble, 7003 E. Medusa St., District 3; Barbara J. Carwile, 605 W. Brooklyn St., District 4; and William F. Hane, 823 S. Lakeside Drive, District 5.

All the candidates are members of the Republican political party.

Town clerk offices and council seats in Claypool, Etna Green, Mentone, Milford, North Webster, Pierceton, Sidney and Silver Lake will be held as a general election in November. To date no one has filed as a candidate for any of these seats. The filing period ends Aug. 1 at noon.
