Glen Slabaugh recently was named Operator of the Year by AGCO Application Equipment. Slabaugh, who works for Clunette Elevator Co. in Leesburg, received the award at the end of November during the Agricultural Retailers Association Conference and Expo in San Diego, Calif. He beat out three other finalists for the award, making him the top applicator in the U.S. and Canada. “What an honor and a privilege to represent applicators everywhere, the guys who go out in the field early in the morning,” he said by phone after receiving the award. He said it’s nice “to be recognized for all I’ve done, my work in the company, being there and getting the job done. I treat each field as if it were my own.” Slabaugh, who’s been on the job for 37 years, noted one of his accomplishments the award recognizes was his passing the 1 million acre mark in the fall. He added he hadn’t been keeping close track, knowing only that he was within 6,000 acres in summer. Slabaugh’s award comes with a choice of a new Harley Davidson motorcycle or some cash. He hadn’t chosen yet. “I’m leaning toward the cash right now,” he said. “I’m not much of a Harley man.”
