Six candidates have officially filed their intentions to replace Ernie Wiggins on the Warsaw City Council.

According to Charlene Knispel, Kosciusko County auditor and secretary of the county's Republican Party, the official candidates as of Monday's filing deadline are Jim Breading, Joe Conlon, John Elliott, Fred Heady, Paul Siebenmorgan and Rosalee Spear.

Spear also is the Precinct One committeewoman in District Three. She and the Precinct Two committeeman, Jack Wilhite, will decide who will replace Wiggins.

If they do not agree on the candidate, then county Republican Party chairman Mike Miner will cast the tie-breaking vote.

The candidates will appear before the precinct committee people at 7 p.m. Thursday at the city council chamber. Candidates will make a short statement about their qualifications before the vote.

Thursday's caucus is open to the public.

Wiggins will leave his city council seat Friday to become mayor of Warsaw on Saturday. He is replacing Jeff Plank, who has taken a job in the private sector.
