The Sisters in Crime mystery writers group was founded in 1986 by Sara Paretsky, Baltimore, Md. It has grown to include 3,600 members in 50 chapters throughout the world. The writers group will be featured in a free program Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Warsaw Community Public Library. The program is sponsored by the Writers Club that meets the second Monday night of the month and is for adults and teens who like to write. The organization not only provides insight into the genre and publishing industry, but also offers workshops, retreats, mentoring opportunities, a newsletter and more. Men can also join the Indiana Sisters in Crime chapter, but they are called Misters in Crime. During the program you can meet authors Andrea Smith, who writes short stories featuring Chicago Police detective Ariel Lawrence; Diana Catt, whose mystery novel “Power in the Blood” was published in 2005; Brenda Robertson, co-editor of “Racing Can Be Murder”; and Cheryl Shore, vice-president of the Speed City Sisters in Crime. Shore wrote “Seeker of Truth,” a mystery novel, and is now working on the prequel. For more information, call 574-267-6011, Ext. 234.
