SILVER LAKE - More than 60 people in Silver Lake have received sewer and water bills that are incorrect.
Town employees are working to remedy the problem, but have not figured out what caused the billing mistake.
Backups of all the activity in the software program from the last six months have been sent to the software company the town uses for billing, but so far the company has not figured out why some of the bills were extremely high.
Tonya Conley, town receptionist, told the council she went through every bill in town and some are three times as high as they normally are. Conley said that she found 63 bills that were affected by the problem, and she is working to figure out what caused the incorrect billing.
The problem is not just in one area of town, it is spread out throughout the town.Until the problem is resolved, the town council decided to suspend penalties on those bills until the problem is resolved.
Conley said she does not know if there will be a problem with the billing at the end of this month, but wanted people to be aware that the problem is being worked on.
A representative from the software company will visit Silver Lake to look at their equipment and gather more information before the end of the month.
Anyone with concerns about their bill should contact the Silver Lake town office.
