Posted

SILVER LAKE — Silver Lake has $750,000 now to help build a community center for the town.
At its meeting on Wednesday, the Silver Lake Town Council heard from Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley that the town received an Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the project.
Conley said the town is still working on receiving several other grants for the center.
The council also dealt with several people improving their properties in town.
One of those was Joe Fugate, whose property is at 208 E. Main St. and is out of compliance with town ordinance.
The council gave him an additional 60 days for compliance as he’s seeking variances for construction from the county in September.
The council also agreed to extend a deadline for Carla Buckles to improve her property at 502 W. Coy Ave. She’s planning to sell it to Seth Lee.
It also agreed to send a recommendation letter to the county on behalf of David Farlow’s house project. He’s seeking a variance from the county for a covered patio at 1011 N. Edgewater Drive.
In other business, the council:
• Approved a $38,058.50 quote from J&K Communications for a new tornado siren.
• Approved a $15,850 quote from National Water Services for a media filter.
• Approved having an executive session on Sept. 17 for employee review purposes.
The council’s next meeting is 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Silver Lake Town Hall.
