Silver Lake Employees Get Town Credit Cards

Posted

SILVER LAKE -ÊFor the first time in history, Silver Lake town employees will have use of town credit cards.

Since Sells Oil Co. removed its gas tanks June 6, the town must purchase gasoline from another company. The town used a charge account with Sells Oil Co. to purchase gas, but other gas stations in town do not allow charge accounts.

In order to purchase gas and oil at either local station, the town now will need credit cards. The Silver Lake Town Council agreed to begin the application process for the credit cards, which will be used only for gasoline and oil for town-owned vehicles.

The town also will apply for a credit card to use for general town purchases. Many companies require credit cards for orders and purchases, making it necessary for the town to have one.

In other business, the council:

• Accepted a bid from Hohman Excavating to remove fill dirt from the old county highway department lot. Hohman Excavating will charge $6 per yard of dirt removed.

• Accepted a bid from Bambi's Roofing to remove an inoperable aerator from the water plant building and repair the hole it will leave in the roof. The entire job will cost $1,089.

• Gave permission for Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter and Town Clerk Angie Glass to pursue a grant to help fund the purchase of a new tornado siren for the town.

• Approved a claim docket totaling $232,977.65. The docket is higher than normal because it includes a bond payment, encumbered road repairs from last year and the payment for a recent smoke test performed on the sewer system.

Silver Lake Town Council members are Stanley Williams, president; Ronald Jones and Tom Waite.
