SILVER LAKE – At its November meeting Tuesday night, the Silver Lake Town Council scheduled a year-end meeting, set raises for next year and heard from department heads.
The council briefly discussed what day they would like to have an end-of-the-year meeting to wrap up town business for 2012. The council informed Silver Lake Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley they would like the meeting to be Dec. 27.
In other business, the council took a look at how large of a raise the town employees should receive for 2013. The council briefly discussed the matter before asking former council member Linda Baker what the raise was for last year. Baker informed the council that they had previously given a 3-percent raise.
As soon as the council agreed that a 3-percent raise would be fair for the town employees, they decided they would not take a raise for the 2013 year. Conley also agreed not to take a raise for 2013.
Once the town business was complete, the council heard from department heads.
Silver Lake Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter started off by letting the council know that the department would be losing Josh White as an officer.
“Josh White will be resigning after 11 years with the department,” Hollopeter said. “He will be going to the North Manchester Police Department. We hate to lose him, he has put in a lot of years and a lot of volunteer work.”
Hollopeter went on to ask the council for permission to have a Christmas event Dec. 8, from noon to 4 p.m. The council agreed. Details on the event will be published as soon as details are available. Additionally, Hollopeter informed the council that the police dinner will be Dec. 9.
Silver Lake Street Commissioner Jasun Blocher informed the council that they continue to have issues with the water system. Blocher and the department have had issues with the levels of iron in the water. Blocher and the department have monitored the issue and will continue to do so until the problem is solved.
Blocher informed the council that this week is the last week for leaf pickup. If homeowners would like leaves picked up after this week they need to bag them up and put them out by the road.
The next meeting of the Silver Lake Town Council is Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Silver Lake Town Hall.
