SILVER LAKE - Water lines soon will run from Silver Lake to Mann's Country Kitchen and the trailer court just outside town.
Tuesday night, at the regular meeting of the Silver Lake Town Council, board members approved a motion to pay Hulman Excavating $2,178.75 to extend the lines past town limits up to the restaurant on Ind. 15.
The extension was proposed when the lines were extended during another project, but state officials told the town to wait to add the additional footage.
The project should be completed in 30 days or less.
In other business, the council:
n Approved a motion to purchase a front loader bucket grapple for $3,000. The attachment is used by town workers to collect limbs and branches at least once per week. The town has been renting the attachment, but decided it would be more cost-effective to purchase the equipment.
n Asked Town Manager Phil Shalley to get quotes to pave part of Schutt Avenue near the boat ramp. Since the project is close to the water, cement must be used to cover the roadway. Paving the road in cement into the water is another project that is being discussed, but permits from the state must be obtained before it can proceed.
n Heard the tornado sirens have been installed and can be set off manually. The systems will be linked to the Kosciusko County Dispatch Center, Silver Lake Police patrol cars and a fire truck soon.
n Heard the town received two letters last month. The first was from Brenda Wadkins requesting documents, and the other was from Carl and Sylvia Helton regarding a water leak. The board approved a motion to adjust the sewer bill for the Heltons.
n Approved a claim docket of $70,310.46.
Silver Lake Town Council members are Ronald Jones, president; Stanley Williams and Gary Kneller. Town clerk is Angie Glass.
