Shot fired during argument leads to charge of criminal recklessnessA Warsaw man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly firing a handgun during an argument earlier this month.

Joshua A. Paxson, 37, of 468 E. Acorn Drive, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday for criminal recklessness. His bond was set at $5,000 surety and $750 cash.

Court documents filed Feb. 7 list the charge against him as criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a level 6 felony.

On Feb. 1, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 468 E. Acorn Drive in reference to a dispute involving weapons. KCSO deputy Matthew Holderman was informed of a dispute involving minors, which led to an altercation involving Paxson and Trea Eldridge at the Acorn Drive residence.

Holderman spoke with a man and a minor who said Eldridge and another minor arrived at the residence in a vehicle. The man and the minor, along with Paxson, confronted Eldridge and the second minor. They also said Paxson had a Springfield XDM .45 caliber handgun. The man and the first minor said Eldridge exited the vehicle with a knife, and an argument occurred between Eldridge and Paxson, according to court documents. During the altercation, Paxson fired his handgun at the ground next to Eldridge, and Eldridge and the second minor left the scene.

A third minor told Holderman she saw the confrontation and confirmed the story of the man and the first minor. She also showed Holderman the bullet hole from Paxson firing his handgun.

Paxson confirmed to Holderman that he fired the handgun.

Eldridge told Holderman that he and the second minor arrived at the residence and were confronted by Paxson. During an argument between him and Paxson, Paxson spit on him and pointed a handgun at him while he was in the vehicle. Eldridge said he took a knife from the vehicle and got out, and Paxson fired the handgun into the ground near him. He and the second minor then left the scene.

The second minor gave Holderman a similar story as Eldridge.
