SYRACUSE – On Oct. 12, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputy Jeff Howie investigated a drug buy at Wawasee High School.
Early in the morning, Howie was informed by a student that Daniel Miller had bought Vicodin from Emily Brugh in front of Miller’s locker.
Howie notified Wawasee High School Assistant Principal Mike Schmidt of the possible transaction. Schmidt searched both Brugh’s and Miller’s lockers and found no pills or paraphernalia.
Brugh was taken out of class to be questioned. While Brugh was questioned, Schmidt and Howie went to find Miller at his physical education class. Miller was taken to the P.E. locker room and his locker was searched. Upon searching the locker, Schmidt and Howie found five Vicodin pills.
Once the drugs were found, Miller admitted that he gave Brugh $20 for cigarettes the day before, but she told him that she had no cigarettes but she would give him Vicodin. Brugh also admitted to giving Miller the pills for cash.
Howie contacted probation officer Kara Shively and Prosecutor Dan Hampton about the transaction. Shively and Hampton scheduled Brugh and Miller for a 1 p.m. hearing at the justice building.
