Sewage Plants Awarded During IWEA Banquet

The Warsaw Wastewater Treatment Department was honored with three awards Wednesday during an Indiana Water Environment Association banquet in Indianapolis.

Both the north and south Warsaw treatment plants received recognition during the event, with a plaque being honored for excellence at each location's facility, as well as a laboratory award shared between the two.

Department head Dave Henderson said he was very pleased with the awards, and hopes the department is honored in other categories in the years to come.

"A lot of people helped the department receive these honors," he said. "This is a result of a lot of hard work from many of the plant's workers. We're getting the job done and I'm proud of where we are right now."

Warsaw's awards were ranked as class three during Wednesday's honors. The classes, which rank communities in terms of population, identify the largest Indiana cities as class 4.

Of the class-three awards, 14 sewer plants, including Warsaw, were recognized. The laboratory award Warsaw received was one of eight handed out during the banquet.

Henderson, who is certified to run a class four treatment plant, has been encouraging ongoing classes for wastewater employees. During Friday's board of public works and safety meeting, Henderson stressed the importance of keeping the department "well educated and prepared for any departmental responsibility."
