A suicide attempt gone bad proved that seatbelts really do save lives, intended or not.
Saturday morning, a Kosciusko County woman attempted to end her life by injecting herself with cocaine and driving at a high rate of speed into a tree.
According to police reports, the woman told police she was trying to die. Accident witnesses reported that she never used her brakes or swerved prior to hitting the tree.
A county sheriff's deputy reported that he believes the woman's life was saved by her seatbelt and airbags.
The only injuries suffered were a complaint of pain to her chest and abdomen, possibly from the combination of heavy impact and the seat belt and airbag functioning properly.
The woman was checked at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, and admitted to the Bowen Center.
Charges against the woman may be forthcoming.
