Warsaw resident Richard Weirick is requesting to not be charged for sewage services when he lives in another state during winter months.
Weirick discussed his request during Friday's Board of Public Works and Safety meeting with board member Charlie Smith and Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins.
Weirick said he submitted a letter to the Warsaw sewage plant payment office requesting his sewage bill be waived when he lives in another state in the winter.
Mayor Ernie Wiggins said there currently is nothing in the city's ordinance that allows sewage fees to be waived for people who live in other states in the winter.
Wiggins said the council would have the authority to amend the ordinance and will discuss the issue at its Oct. 1 meeting at 7 p.m. at city hall.
"I understand the dynamics of the situation and as more people are moving into the city we see more people wanting access to city sewer," Wiggins said.
Warsaw Wastewater Treatment Utility manager David Henderson said he has received other calls from Warsaw residents who live in other states in the winter who have requested to have their sewer fee waived.
Henderson said the sewage fees also include debt service payments and infrastructure and maintenance fees.
