LEESBURG – The search for a possible drowning victim on Tippecanoe Lake was suspended at 10:30 p.m. Friday due to nightfall and rough lake conditions reducing visibility. Officers were to begin the search again today at 6 a.m., according to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources press release issued late Friday night. According to the original IDNR press release, Indiana conservation officers, along with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and North Webster Fire Department, were actively searching for a man who went under the water Friday evening and did not resurface on Tippecanoe Lake. In a telephone call at about 9:35 p.m. Friday, IDNR Sgt. Ashlee Jackson said the body had not been found. Weather permitting and with lake conditions, Indiana conservation officers were using side scan sonar equipment to image the bottom of the lake. Kosciusko County Central Dispatch received the 911 call around 5:15 p.m. Friday, alerting them of the possible drowning. Divers with the IDNR, KCSD and North Webster Fire department arrived on scene and began the search. Providing assistance to the conservation officers were the North Webster Fire, North Webster Police, North Webster EMS, KCSD and ISP. Conservation officers were requesting all boaters on Tippecanoe Lake to avoid the area while the search was underway.
