LEESBURG – The search for a drowning victim in Tippecanoe Lake was still ongoing as of this morning, according to Indiana Department of Natural Resources Sgt. Ashlee Jackson.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Chad Hill confirmed today emergency responders were still unable to find the drowning victim, but the search was continuing.
He said the lake is one of the deepest lakes in the state, going more than 100 feet down.
Jackson said there was no update this morning. Officers are using sonar equipment to observe the bottom of the lake, which Jackson said was “really deep.” The search could take a few days.
Jackson did not identify the drowning victim’s name, age or other information.
Kosciusko County Central Dispatch received a 911 call around 5:15 p.m. Friday about the possible drowning. Divers with the IDNR, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and North Webster Fire Department arrived on the scene and began the search. At about 10:30 p.m. Friday, the search was suspended but restarted at 6 a.m. Saturday and continued through the weekend.
Jackson said the man was with family when he disappeared into the lake.
