Salvation Army Welcomes Families To Christmas Party

Staff Report-
Salvation Army held its annual Christmas party this week where over 80 children with their parents and volunteers gathered to celebrate. “Many know The Salvation Army for our social services programs such as our choice food pantry and other emergency assistance programs, but we are more than that. We ultimately want to connect our clients to our many weekly programs held in our community center,” Lt. Karen Pommier, commanding officer, is quoted as saying in a press release from the organization. “People need immediate assistance, but they also need support systems to help them move forward in life and we are able to provide that through our small support groups and weekly gatherings.” Kosciusko County currently serves children and youth in the community through its weekly kids club and summer camping programs. "Every week, we connect with students from Grace College and volunteers from our community who want to make a difference in the lives of these kids,” Esteban said. This year, The Salvation Army organized a Christmas party for children and youth enrolled in its weekly kids club and many of the parents were also present. "Seeing involved parents fills our hearts with joy; we believe in not only connecting with the child but in working with the entire family to strengthen the child's support system,” he said. The organization also offers support groups for women and families during the week through its church services and events. During the Christmas season, the organization also visits local nursing homes and jail inmates to distribute presents and to share hope with individuals in need. "We are also gearing up for our Angel Tree toy and Christmas food distribution but we still need funding for these and many other programs throughout the year. Support through financial giving as well as through bell ringing is crucial during this time,” Esteban said.
