Warsaw Salvation Army received a $5,000 Hunger Relief Grant from Wal-Mart.
The grant will be used to restock the Salvation Army’s food pantry so it can continue to battle hunger in the community.
In addition, the Salvation Army is challenging the Warsaw community to match the $5,000 in cash and non-perishable food items.
Donations can be mailed to or dropped off at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center, 501 E. Arthur St., Warsaw.
“This is a very practical way for our community to respond to a great matching opportunity,” Salvation Army Lt. Esteban Pommier said.
“It will be interesting to see how donations are multiplied to continue helping the needy in Kosciusko County.”
The food pantry in Kosciusko County serves 234 families on average per month. It also serves approximately 200 individuals per month as part of its adult and youth outreach program.
“The requests for items for our pantry continue to stay constant, especially during the summer when school is not in session,” said Ken Locke, community ministries director.
“This donation could not have come at a better time to help us serve others.”
