Salvation Army Needs A Few Good Bell Ringers For The Holidays

Posted
Volunteers will soon stand outside local businesses to collect money for the Salvation Army to provide assistance to those less fortunate in the community.

Bell ringing begins Nov. 29 and continues until Dec. 24. Volunteers are needed.

Volunteers will ring bells Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.Warsaw bell ringing locations include Wal-Mart, Kmart, Marsh and both Owen's Supermarkets on South Buffalo and East Center streets.

There was $53,000 raised last year from the red kettle efforts. This year's red kettle goal is $54,000, according to Salvation Army Capt. Jody Dalberg.

"We can't continue to function without the support from the community," Dalberg said.

He said the Salvation Army has a base of volunteers every year, but always seek additional volunteers to bell ring.

Funds collected from the bell-ringing efforts will fund Salvation Army's operation expenses.

He said this year's efforts will be important because of the economy.

"We are seeing an influx of more people coming in seeking assistance, and people who even have jobs are needing assistance because of the economy," Dalberg said.

To volunteer to bell ring, call the Salvation Army at 574-267-5361 or Dalberg at 574-265-5246.
