Salvation Army Kicks Off Bell Ringing Today, Volunteers Needed

Posted
The Salvation Army’s annual bell ringing efforts kick off today and continue until Dec. 24.

This year’s fundraising goal for bell ringing is $80,000, according to Esteban Pommier, Salvation Army lieutenant.

Last year, bell ringers raised $75,000.

Pommier said examples of groups who can bell ring include individuals, families, students, couples, church groups, service clubs, friends, fraternities and Scout groups.

Funds from the bell ringing efforts go to support Salvation Army’s operating funding, including rental assistance for low-income families and food pantry services.

Bell ringing locations are at Walmart, JC Penneys, Kmart, Big R, Owen’s on West and East Center streets; Walgreens; and Lance’s New Market in Syracuse and North Webster.

Bell ringing is on Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Besides the red kettles outside of the bell ringing locations, there also are countertop kettles at 100 Kosciusko County businesses.

To volunteer to be a bell ringer, call the Salvation Army at 574-267-5361.

The Salvation Army also is gearing up for its Angel Tree program.

Angel Trees will be at Reinholt’s Townsquare Furniture, Courthouse Coffee downtown, Mad Anthony’s Lake City Taphouse and Key Bank beginning Monday until Dec. 17.

People can choose a child’s name from any tree then purchase a gift and wrap it and return it to any of the locations. Toys that are unwrapped and food donations will be accepted for local food pantries.

The items collected will be distributed to families Dec. 18.
