Sacred Heart Catholic School was awarded a $1,000 prize Thursday from Old National Bank. The school, along with schools in Fort Wayne and Warsaw Community Schools, participated in a contest in September. Parents and students could visit the bank’s website and vote for their favorite school and Sacred Heart received the most votes. The funds will be used for Sacred Heart’s after-school programs such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, drama and chess clubs and student council. Principal James Faroh, Father Phil DeVolder and Sacred heart School Board member and parent Kristine Alderfer accepted the check from John Warren, Warsaw Old National Bank market president, and Wendell Vontrager, Fort Wayne region Old National Bank president, during a school assembly Thursday afternoon. Warren said Sacred Heart is the “little engine that could” and competed against large school corporations to receive the award. “Old National Bank likes to give back to our communities where we are located and serve, and to see the efforts of the Sacred Heart families in voting for their school is heart warming,” Warren said. Faroh thanked Old National Bank for the contest and Alderfer for coordinating the contest for Sacred Heart. “You know, students, your families were the ones who earned this prize. Just so that all of you know, Sacred Heart School family earned this prize by going online and registering as many times as they could during the month of September,” Faroh said. “Each time your family took the time to register to vote for Sacred Heart School, we got closer to earning this prize. Each family could vote for their school once a day. Faroh thanked National Bank for providing the opportunity for the contest. “I want to thank Old National Bank for providing this great opportunity, and I would also like all of you to go home and thank your families for their help in earning this money for our after-school clubs and activities,” Faroh said.
