Sacred Heart Pampering Night Proceeds To Benefit Haiti SchoolTammy Ellis and her daughter Jessica were instructed by Mary Kay Cosmetics consultants on how to create a makeup look Thursday night.
The Ellis mother and daughter were two out of 93 women who attended a Ladies Pampering Night at Sacred Heart Church, Warsaw, Thursday.
"Things get busy between work, and raising my young son, and I am glad to have some bonding time to spend with my daughter," Tammy said. Also in the room, JThree Hair Salon employees, Warsaw, provided hairstyles to the women, and Bob List, Bob List Photography, took portrait photos once the women had their makeup and hair done.
There were other rooms set up Thursday night where women could receive massages from Charter College of Health and Massage Therapy students and Expressions Day Spa employees.
Women who attended the pampering paid a $10 entry fee. The funds will be donated to a school in Kenscoff, Haiti, in need of toilets and a sanitation system.
The proceeds from the pampering also will help defray travel expenses for Sacred Heart Church youth group members who will visit Haiti to meet the students.
Ida List, Sacred Heart Church youth minister, and church member Deb Reith will travel with youth group members in summer 2011 to the school in Haiti to meet with the students of St Nichols School, Haiti.
"We thought having a pampering night would be a fun way to relax and raise funds that could be donated for a worthwhile cause," List said.
St. Nichols School has been a sister parish of Sacred Heart Church for the past 20 years. Sacred Heart Church has raised funds to help pay for meals for the students and teachers, and purchase school supplies for the Haiti school.
There are 750 students at the Haiti school for grades kindergarten through 12th grade. There are 350 students in the high school, and 400 students in the grade school.
Sacred Heart members have raised $7,000 for the Haiti school through monthly offerings and a bake sale. The goal is to raise $22,000.
The school in Haiti does not currently have toilets, and students use outhouses.
Deb and Paul Reith, Sacred Heart Church members, will visit Haiti later this month to see what needs to be done to prepare for the youth group to visit.
It will be Paul's first time for visiting the school, but Deb went 10 years ago with other church members.
