Sacred Heart Elects 1st Student Council In School's HistoryBefore this year, Sacred Heart Elementary School never had a student council, according to school officials.
Friday that changed as 14 students were inducted into the school's first-ever student council.
Principal Jim Faroh Sr. said elections were held Tuesday. "Almost every child in the school ran in the election," he said. Faroh told the school that was a very good problem for Sacred Heart to have.Faroh and teacher Lee McGuire are the council sponsors.
During the induction ceremony Friday morning before the full student body, the students raised their right hand and held their left hand toward the Bible. They simultaneously took an oath of office during a schoolwide convocation.
During the school assembly, Faroh said he knows the elected students were very excited to win. However, elected or not, Faroh said he admired all the students' willingness to take part.
By taking part in the student council or in the election process, Faroh said the students learned about conducting a campaign, making speeches and selecting important issues for fellow students. He expects the winners will demonstrate good conduct and practice good leadership behavior.
The 2009-10 student council includes, first grade: representative Cole Schmidt, alternates Jarod Ilada and Sydney Lancaster; second grade: representative Connor Lennox, alternate Jake Desenberg; third grade: representative Amy Herendeen, alternate Dawson Vilamaa; fourth grade: representative Alex Koontz, alternate Ella Knight; fifth grade: representative Julie Frazzetta, alternate Michael Miller and Shane Powers; and sixth grade: representative Peyton Adamiec and alternate Maggie Watkins.
