CLAYPOOL – The American Red Cross of Kosciusko County is assisting a family of five after a house fire Saturday afternoon. The Red Cross is also seeking assistance for the family and disaster relief donations can be made to the chapter. The Red Cross is providing shelter, food and clothing after a fire struck their home in the 5900 block of CR 50W Saturday. Claypool Fire Department responded to the call at 2:10 p.m. The house was not a total loss but sustained extensive smoke damage, according to Fire Chief Bob Haines. The fire has been ruled accidental, Haines added. At this time, they cannot rule out an extension cord feeding a water softener as the cause. Claypool was assisted by Winona Lake Fire Department. Anyone wishing to make a disaster relief donation to the family can contact the Red Cross at 574-267-5244.
